Case 2: Michael

Meet Michael

You receive a new patient, Michael, who is five years old and comes in with his father. During his initial consultation you notice a short lingual frenum and that he is a little difficult to understand. You ask Michael’s father if he knows about the short lingual frenum. Worried, his father replies that he had no idea this was a problem and asks what they should do about it. You discuss Michael’s options with his father.

Your treatment plan is to:

  1. Do nothing about it for now and follow up with Michael at his next routine exam.
  2. Write a referral for a SLP.
  3. Perform a frenectomy.
