Activity wrap up & Exemplar video

The case you just completed may be very similar to situations you have come across in your own practice. Referring to a registered dietitian in this case provided Nick and his mother with additional time to review nutritional concerns impacting his dentition and overall health.

By building a referral base of registered dietitians you can now:

  • Cross refer patients
  • Have lunch-and-learns in your office on timely nutrition topics
  • Utilize a useful resource to develop nutrition educational material for your practice

Collaboration at NYU

The following video highlights the collaboration between pediatric dentists and students at New York University College of Dentistry.

This collaboration between the NYU Dietetic Internship and the Pediatric Dental Residency has its inception in 2004. Dietetic interns rotate through the pediatric dental clinic as well as a pediatric community site. At these sites, they interact with patients, their families and dental care providers about nutrition and oral health.

In this video, you will be introduced to:

  • Dr. Amr Moursi, Chair of Pediatric Dentistry at the NYU College of Dentistry
  • Jessica Katz, Dietetic Intern and Candidate for Master's Degree in Clinical Nutrition
  • Dr. Stephanie Hardwick, graduating pediatric dentistry resident

This inter-professional interaction provides a detailed example of dietitians and pediatric dentists working in practice to benefit their patient's oral and overall health.
